Debut takes LA!

It’s the land of palm trees and candy-coloured sunsets and with many of our readers reporting back to us from Los Angeles it was only right we took a trip to the city of angels, only to have all of our expectations, not only met but exalted.

The minute we stepped off the plane we were greeted by towering palm trees, sunshine and what looked like a filtered city, with lilac hues and gorgeous greens. Let the fun begin!

We kicked off the week with a meeting at the stunning Beverly Hills Hotel (obvs) Feeling as if we had stepped into a vintage Hollywood Movie, from the café staff dressed in mini tennis skirts and polo shirts to the retro pastel pink and green interior in every corner, it certainly didn’t feel like an average day in the office! We were in an actual pastel paradise and the whole experience only got more surreal when our gorgeous interviewee, model Muriel Villera walked in. Wearing minimal makeup, an enviable LA glow, and looking effortlessly chic, Muriel joined us to talk careers, men, women, relationships, and more. (Interview coming soon!)

Not content with having made The Beverly Hills Hotel our office for the day, our next ‘work’ day was at no other than the PrettyLittleThing LA Lounge where would be interviewing Erika Lila, Stylist at PrettyLittleThing. Erika greeted us with a sparkling glass of Rose (when in LA ofcourse) and the warmest most energetic welcome we had felt in a long time. She was in-between styling for a shoot and interviewing with Debut – we instantly felt the love and excitement she had for her career. Our interview delves deep into Erika’s styling journey from the UK to LA – watch this space.

The best way to describe PLT’s LA office (if you can call it that) would be in the words of Umar Kamani himself, “Everything we have created in this space has been made to be Instagram friendly. I wanted to create a space where girls can feel like they are living in a fairy tale.” As you can imagine it certainly did feel like we were living in a fairy tale, and not only in view of the giant unicorn, stunning interiors and all pink bar area but mostly by how wonderfully we were hosted by Erika and the rest of the team at PrettyLittleThing. Thank you!

With it being our first time in LA, we couldn’t resist playing tourists. We set out to explore and live out all of our Beverly Hills 90210 dreams. Hiking up Runyon Canyon to get closer to the Hollywood sign and breathtaking views of LA, a day trip to Malibu to soak up some much-needed sun and a wander around the Walk of Fame were only a few of our highlights.

We ended the trip on a high shooting at yet another dreamy, pastel pink and super Instagram-able location – The Urban Jungle Studio.

This studio space felt nothing less than walking into our fantasy teen bedroom. We were mesmerised on arrival so forgave ourselves for setting a 5am call time! We are so excited to have had the opportunity to work with a talented team of L.A. based creatives on this shoot and can’t wait to share it with you. And as we firmly believe we can’t be all work and no play, we packed up the shoot and headed to Vegas!

Needless to say LA captured us, the palm trees, the sunsets and the glorious sunshine were only an addition to the magic we saw and experienced. This city has something outside of the ordinary so 7 days proved impossible to fit in everything we had prepared in our itinerary. But we’re thankful for the wonderful people we met and worked with and can’t wait for Debut takes LA in 2020!
